Young Guns Shine in PSC Contest 3

3 MARCH 2012

With rain & more rain forecast but promising waves the 'Pres' made the final decision to run the comp at 6.00am Sat and a very good decision it was!!!

2nd car park presented off / cross shore 3 to 4 footers all day with conditions glassy by days end - while the rain fell the club"s great tent facilities provided by our sponsor Ozmosis kept everyone dry and together.

The boys in Open Division 1 ripped the bags out of the waves all day.
Caiden Fowler
was the standout surfer for the day and his speed and critical vertical attack brought home his second victory for the year. Angus Forrest seriously gouging speed hacks gave him a clear 2nd with Tom Lyon 3rd and Adam Morris 4th. The standout heat of the day was clearly the second semi final with Tom Lyon coming from behind which a huge air reverse to closely beat Adam Morris who tore the rights and lefts apart including his own air game. Other standout Open surfers were Liam Jolly, Cal Nicholson and Ryan (the Pres) Chalmers. Cadien now takes a strong lead into the last two contests with Liam Jolly in second, Angus in third and Josh Hallam in fourth. The young guys have really taken control of the Open Division (oldest in Semi Finals was Ads at 23) with progressive surfing - bring on the teams titles!!!

In the Junior division Tom Antonie had a commanding victory with some stylish but critical pocket snaps with the much improved Dylan Hallam coming in second in his first finals appear, Damo Wells third (also first final) and Sam Corboy fourth who had to leave early. Tom now has the lead with two firsts closely followed by Grant Williams with one first.

In the women's division Matilida Mclennan made the most of her opportunities with some powerful backhand carves in the rippy conditions to bring home her second victory for the year over Tabby Vockler in second, Mel Kain in third and Vee in fourth. Matilida's victory moves her to first in the aggregate with Tabby in second.

In the girl's divison Matilida had her third straight victory followed by Tabby in second giving Matilda an almost unbeatable position with two comps to go

The cadet boys were hotly contested all day with the boys so eager and all becoming such great mates. Joel Wookey (coming off his recent state ASA final finish at Phillip Island) came out on top in the final with some great carves and floaters followed closely in second by the powerful backhand attack of Billy Wells with Jamieson Kingston third and William Antonie in fouth. Victory in this division is open for grabs between Joel, Billy, Jamo and Will and it is great to see the boys pushing each others surfing to new levels with noticeable improvement each competition

In the Under 13 boys Gully Steelhead showed the benefits of living most of 2011 in Bali taking out his first victory on a countback to William Antonie with some great rail surfing and critical drops. Jet came in third with James Easton fourth and Charlie Lucas in fifth. It was great to see the boys take on the main bank and show their improvement in front of the club

Other winners on the day were Liam Fowler (Open Div 2) giving the Fowler boys the daily double, Joel Reid (Senior Mens), Tex Walker (Masters), Peter Watts (Senior Masters), Tim Antonie (Grand Masters) and Ron Gorringe (Legends).

All these divisions aggregates are up for grabs which will make it an exciting end to the season

Thanks for everyone's help on the day. The Club is firing on all cylinders at the moment which is a credit to the current committee and all members!!!

Next comp is scheduled for 17 March with back up on 24 March. See you all then

Cheers,
Tim & Nath
