4th Club Comp Held in Classic Autumn Gunna Conditions

21 APRIL 2012 ( PSC SEASON 2011/12 )

The fourth aggregate club competition was held on Saturday 21 April. The conditions were classic gunna with a 5 to 6 foot swell out the back, double ups on the inside, no wind and heaps of sunshine. It was a great decision by the Pres to delay the comp to the back up date!!!

The conditions were testing at times as the best waves moved from the outside to the inside as the tide came in but some some awesome progressive surfing was on display with barrels and power turns out the back and some airs and reverses on the inside. No results were read out and with the 5th comp will be held back to presentation night to make for an exciting night.

In the Open the final was strongly contested between current aggregate leader Caiden Fowler, Hayden Forrest and two guys in their first Open Final Ryan (the Pres) Chalmers and Mitch Hayes. The best waves were clearly out the back on the lower tide with a few tubes and big turns executed in some heavy sections. It is great to see the standard is constantly being pushed this year and this is being turbo charged by last year's juniors such as Mitch, Mike Barber and Tom Lyon as well as current juniors - there are no longer any easy Open heats for anyone!!!

The Junior Final was pivotal in determining the aggregate winner with Grant Williams and Tom Antonie going blow for blow with some epic rides while Christian Hall and Dylan Hallam also took it up to the big guns.

The Cadet Division Final was very close with the top 4 in the aggregate Joel Wookey, Billy Wells, Jamieson Kingston and Will Antonie all making the final and the much improved Bayden Croft and Louis Purchase also surfing well in the final - all the top four positions are up for grabs in the aggregate coming into the last comp.

In the Women's division Georgia Fish put on a flawless display of power surfing with Tabby Vockler also joining the party with some awesome surfing - with Matilda up at the Volcom comp this aggregate will come down to the last comp.

In the Girl's division Tabby, Bella Ford and Piper Harrison all surfed well in the testing conditions.

The Grom Boys showed great courage to be out there with Marlon Harrison, Rip Everret, Jet Dickson and Will Antonie all getting a few on the head and some great waves as well.

In all other divisions the results have really opened up the aggregates in many divisions. We thank everyone for their help on the day and the comps are running as smoothy as we could have hoped.

Super Awesome donated some radical clothes for the "Super Awesome Move of the Day" to push the club's awesomely skilled surfers throughout the day! Luke Chalmers & the crowd awarded the threads with hoots, cheers & yews to Joel Reid for his 80's larry layback & overall epic shredding all day, an Occy-like-grommet Jet Dickerson for a massive back hand reo throwing spray to Cape Schank and Josh Hallam for his shade time clocked up in the barrel, what a freak!

The final comp is scheduled for 5 May with 19 May set aside as a back up date.

Cheers

Tim and Nathan
