Saturday 21st April saw the 4th aggregate contest fire up in ultra fun 3ft left and right bowls at First Carpark Gunnamatta. The day way a raging succcess until the change came through and put an end to proceedings with the finals being postponed until 12th May.
Good Results at Volcom Contest, Rye

GT Takes out 2007 Cash Contest
If you were at the cash comp held on 20th January you will no doubt agree that the quality of waves, whilst slightly inconsistent throughout the day, there was more than we could have hoped for. Clean, long, 4-5ft right hand walls were on offer for all competitors and the majority of waves included a great, shallow end section. The small entry fee was well worth the opportunity to have first Car Park like that with such little company, or so I thought after such an action packed and busy holiday period. ( More from Lachy )

2nd Club Contest Rye : Report
Huey finally pulled through with some great ocean beaches surf for the 2nd PSC contest of the 2006-07 season. A very, very early start saw the completion of the 3 remaining finals from the first comp in fantastic 3-4ft rights at Rye. Congratulations to winners Texas, Liam Jolly and Ronnie.
With two great right-handers on offer the decision was made to split the comp. The cadets took full advantage of the perfect conditions with some great turns from Tom Stenford, Michael Doherty and Wade Cochrane showing the high scoring potential of the banks.
Excellent, high scoring rides were commonplace in the open and junior heats with standout surfers being Jolly, Caiden, Hydey, Tim Dexter, Micah, Chuck, Homer, Edgo, Darty, Camilla and Sophie McKinley. Unfortunately the quality of the waves saw many of the favourites fall to some great surfing from newer members and the ever enthusiastic juniors. With a dropping tide and slight sea breeze, the waves just became even more "smash-able" prior to their deterioration at the start of the junior final. We managed to get the day finished reasonably early considering the extra hour of competition to be completed. Congratulations to all division winners and finalists. The standard of surfing was much higher than last year with many junior surfers pushing the older guys.
Thanks to everyone who helped out, Sammy and Brooksy, as well as Rod Barber, Tim Howey, Barn, Mel Harrison and anyone not mentioned.

1st Club Comp Completed at Point Leo
After much deliberation the decision was made to run the first event for the 06/07 season at Point Leo (thanks to Adam for the early surf report!). On arrival clean, 4ft plus sets greeted members and with a quick start the cadets showed the quality of the surf with some high scoring rides. The day ran smoothly with great weather, waves and surfing until the rapid, outgoing tide killed the chances of completion. So with 3 finals remaining (open, junior and grand masters), the decision was made to pull the pin. Those finals will be held early in the day at the next competition. ( Photo: Georgia Fish tearing up the Hump at Leo )
A huge thanks to Richie, Shannon, Edgo, Jane, Skip, Hydey, Sam Grant and Brooksy for their help in the tent (and anyone forgotten). Great turn out by all and good to see some new faces around the club. VIEW RESULTS›
Australian Surf Masters 2006 : Bells
The Australian Surf Masters were held at solid Bells last week with our team consisting of Mark Walker, Salim Delvean (Pictured), Gary Burns, Mark Harrison, Phil Trigger and Melissa Dart-Harrison.
The contest started on fathers day with 4-5ft Bells Bowl. The swell jacked over the Sunday, Monday and Tuesday peaking with Onshore and ugly 6-8 ft Bells. The biggest day organisers got the 'boo hahs' and moved it around to Torquay Point, believe it or not and to Bazza’s absolute horror.
The swell held in for the rest of the week peaking again on the friday at about 6ft Bells for the finals. The conditions really seemed to suit the viccos with us being well represented through the finals and semi finals.
Overall Viccos dominated the blue ribbon divisions winning Open Mens, Over28, & Over40. Victoria came 2nd overall in the tag team. Our results included: Selim (15th), Tex (9th), Bazza (3rd), Triggs (2nd), Harry (5th, 7th) and Melissa (7th). Well done all those who competed and flew the PSC flag high. MEL.

PSC V's PIBC Challenge
If you weren’t there at the PSC and Phillip Island club Challenge, you missed a classic.
It was a fantastic day from start to finish, both clubs gottogether for the first time in over 15 years to hold a club challenge held at the Woolamai in some of the best 3-5ft contestable waves we’ve had in a long time.
The day involved surfing all divisions of the club including a Legends heat where we brought Paul Trigger in to help Skip out. Phillip Island got off to a good early start and we had to play catch up throughout the day.
3rd PSC Contest Completed
Saturday 18th March saw PSC's 3rd Aggregate Contest in ever changing 3-5ft conditions at 2nd Carpark Gunnamatta. Well done Chuck, Sophie and Alex for taking out their divsions.
Direct Link found between Gunna Outfall & Diatom Bloom
Clean Ocean Foundation has determined that the water discolouration and odour present at Rye, St Andrews and Gunnamatta beaches overthe last 4 weeks is the direct result of sewage discharge at Gunnamatta.
Testing conducted in the diatom bloom not only revealed Clostridium perfringens (a bacterial indicator of faecal contamination) throughout the bloom but toxic ammonia at concentrations far exceeding the EPA's Recommended Water Quality Criteria. The results confirmed that sewage discharge from the Gunnamatta outfall was present in the diatom bloom.

2nd Contest Finally Run & Won
After a couple of postponements, Christmas and the New Year break, we finally got the conditions to hold our 2nd Aggregate Contest at good old reliable 1st Carpark Gunna in very contestable 3ft conditions. With some big performances by the Juniors & Girls who really shook up the senior establishment with many grommets making finals and unleashing big moves as above and Adam Morris' 10 point ride.

Well done Tracey Brown, Sean Winter, Alex Vrana, Adam Morris, Liam Jolly, Garry Taylor, Simon Forward, Skeeta, Wombat, Tim Birnie, Andrew Everist and Jack Winter who all all ripped! 1st Contest 2005/06 Report
Saturday 15th of October saw sunny skies and solid conditions at Gunnamatta 1st Car Park with an excellent turnout of over 90 competitors throughout the divisions to kick off another exciting PSC season.
Highlights included the Juniors, who performed extremely well in the tricky conditions showcasing the strength coming up in the club, with 04/05 Cadet Champion Adam Morris taking the final closely followed by Alex Vrana.
Peninsula expatriate Simon Forward was welcomed back to the club after pursuing his shaping career on the west coast, dominating the Open A division taking out the final with an excellent display of solid power surfing.
The day's operations were smoothly run with special thanks to Treasurer Claire Easton, taking care of financial and tally matters, Lauchlan McDonald for keeping the heats in the water, JP Ricca having the BBQ on the trot and the rest of the committee and members for all the help throughout the event sharing the load judging, setting up and enjoying the day as a team.
A reminder to all members that the next comp is on Saturday 19th Nov, with the opportunity for new members to join and get involved, meet at 1st CP Gunna at 7.30. Good luck to the PSC team competing in the Victorian Teams Titles event on the 13th November.

Auction night a great success!
Once again the Auction night was a huge night and great success, and we took an incredible $33,000 on the night. Lots of people walked away with bargains and others went home with some great memorabilia. Some spent a little too much, but hey it was for a good cause. I would personally like to thank every individual company and person who donated something for the night. With out those donations we would not be able to have a clubhouse like we have got today. I have been asked so many times who booked the entertainment for the night. Well I have to say I canOt take the credit for that one, but I sure you will all like to say something to Mark Howey. He was the man. Thanks heaps to the committee members that put in on this one, you did a fantastic job, and thanks to Ron Gorringe and Ian Burns for stepping in and helping out when it was needed. And a special thanks to Clare and Skip who had major dramaOs with their six boy James on the day but still manage to turn up and help out, and of course spend a few dollars.
Gunnamatta Receives Death Sentence
Today the John Thwaites controlled EPA refused to enforce the existing works approval that would have seen the Eastern Treatment Plant upgraded to produce Class A water. According to Clean Ocean Foundation President, Peter Smith – "The announcement has ensured Gunnamtta will remain's most polluted beach for at least another 10 years."

Green Slime found at Gunnamatta?
Many surfers have reportedly been sick after surfing in the noxious
green slime that oozed around first car-park on 15 February 2005.
So if this was you and you want to make a difference read below and
put up a fight.
Picture a world where synthetic chemicals and endocrine disrupters
enter the water cycle through outfalls and drains into the ocean.
Imagine a world where birth defects, testicular cancer and breast
cancer spirals out of control. In this world governments pour billions
of dollars into research looking for cures while almost completely
ignoring the causes. It shouldn't be too hard to visualize this world
because most of us have been living in it all our lives
What can you do? You can make a massive difference to the health of
our planet by visiting the EPA website and submitting a comment on
why you think the Eastern Treatment Plant should be upgraded immediately.
